Thursday morning, 9/29/16.  It's early in the morning and The Lucky Lady is moving steadily towards Demopolis, AL.
We stayed at Pirates Marina Cove Tuesday night and met some really nice folks.  The best part was the visit we had from Jimmy's niece,  Delaney and her roomate Marty.  They're @ 40 minutes away at the University of Alabama.  They took us into town for pizza and shopping.

Yesterday got off to an interesting start.  Jimmy discovered that we had alternator problems soon after leaving the Pirates Cove.  He rowed the dinghy to the shore and met up with one of the nice folks we'd met at Pirates Cove.  Eventually,  Jimmy determined that he needed more tools and equipment than we had.  Close by however,  was a highway dept. garage and Jimmy was allowed to use their vice to hold the alternator rotor.  It wasn't long and we were on the move.  Every time the Lucky Lady has had a problem,  we seem to have just what we need waiting nearby.

We anchored in a good spot and now are waiting to go through the locks.  Didn't seem too cold last night, but was freezing this morning.   Can't complain.  The weather has been really good to us since we left Louisville.
Made friends with one of the Pirates on Tom Bigby

Jimmy's niece Delaney and her roommate Marty

All dressed up and nowhere to go!
We might trade...

You never know what you might see out here. This one reminds us of us.
Pickwick Marina after dark.

It's Thursday morning, 9/22/16, and another beautiful day on the water.  Plan on going 50 miles to Cuba Landing, still on the TN River but just out of KY Lake.  As we move on, we must back up.  None of this journey would have been possible if not for the efforts of Vickie, Nicole and Sunny Evans.
They worked through a tremendous amount of confusion to make sure that we had an IPad that would give us and the boat exactly what was needed.  Ron of Riverpark Marina in Louisville, gave Jimmy, Gary and myself a class on how to use our navigational app, Skipper.  We rely on this all day everyday and Ron furnished paper charts that we use as well.  Thank you very much.

Time to catch up.  We tried to take pic of a bald eagle and a white pelican and neither could pull it off.I think it would be nice to have some wildlife pics.  But we did arrive at Cuba Landing at 4:30.  We tied up next to David Foxworthy, originally from Lexington, KY.  After a dinghy ride, he gave us 2 steaks and we ate like kings.  He also gave us a CD that he recorded some time ago.  He's a really nice guy and so talented.

Later that night, we were visited by Caleb, his parents and his older brother, William.  The seven of us had a great time.

Saturday, 9/24/16
The fog lifted and we're on our way.  An hour after leaving, we realized that we'd forgotten to return the keys to the courtesy car . . .not too courteous on our part.  We called and were told to leave them at our next stop.

We tied up and settled in at Pickwick Landing State Park Marina.  Took a bike ride to get ice and got back after dark.  We made sandwiches and talked to a few people.  I wanted another one, but couldn't find the bread.  Where the hell could it be?  By then I'd lost my appetite, but was determined to find the bread.  It was as though we had a visitor who walked off with it . . . we did.  The visitor returned and scared me to death.  I yelled and scared him away.  Jimmy woke up and asked what happened.  I told him about the raccoon that quietly appeared 2 feet away from me.  We thought that was the end of it, but we were wrong.  As we slept in the cabin, he came back in the cabin and took some instant oatmeal, a jar of peanut butter and other food.  The commotion woke Jimmy up and he saw the pesky creature going out the window.  It wasn't long before he returned again and Jimmy was ready.  Jimmy took his picture as he was about to  climb aboard and the flash scared him away.  WOW ! ! !     a wildlife photo at last.

Gilligan's Island. Although you can't see see Mary Ann, she did wave.

The only white sand beach we've seen so far.

Home sweet boat!

Jimmy's new friend Caleb and his family visited us in Cuba Landing, TN. Jimmy and Caleb played ninja turtles all night and I was worn out from watching
Jimmy, Eddie Hockman and myself
Eddie Hockman (proprietor of Clark's Tavern, Rhodelia, KY) went to eat with us and stayed the night on the boat.
Still looking for the otter!

Eddie saw us off and soon we were in the canal that connects Lake Barkley to Kentucky Lake.  So big.  So beautiful.  These lakes and the land between is so close to us all and certainly a place worth seeing.  We saw very few boats and  it seemed like the whole lake belonged to us.  We did see another creepy guy on the bank far, far away.  I knew it couldn't be Jimmy, because he was cooking lunch at the time. ( Boat cuisine at it's very best.). Maybe it was Gary.
We're tied up at Paris Landing State Park in TN and will continue in the morning.

Lotsa good pics to be posted soon by the techs ones.

Tuesday, 9/20/2016

Off to a pretty good start, as the fog lifted early.  On our way to Green Turtle Bay, at Lake Barkley.  In less than twenty miles, we would enter the Cumberland River.  At the confluence, we were met by a tow with 15 barges.  He and I talked on the radio and he advised us to maneuver into the Cumberland and he would go a bit further and make the wide sweep into the Ohio and proceed north.  The Cumberland is not nearly as wide as the Ohio, but just as beautiful.  We saw a few barns and these were our only reminders of civilization.  You don't need any imagination to wonder what things were like two hundred years ago.  Just look around.
Eddie Hockman, from Concordia drove over on his cycle to meet us and thank God he did.  We radioed the locks and were told there would be a two hour wait.  We hung out and talked (phone) to Eddie from time to time.  At last we were allowed to lock through with a tug boat.  After the gates opened, we had to wait for the tug to hook up to the barges that were waiting on the other side.  Soon it was pitch dark.  We weren't far from Green Turtle Bay and Eddie, with his flashlight guided us safely in.  Second time in two weeks Eddie was in the right place at the right time.  Soon we were eating at Patti's, then it was back to The Lucky Lady.  Eddie hung out and spent the night.  Great time.
Monday, 9/19/2016

We rode bicycles to town this morning and saw the small river town of Golconda.  What a nice place, with reminders of yesteryear everywhere you look.  We raced each other on the bikes and Jimmy won.  It wasn't even close, but wait til next time.
Daryl, from the Herald Enterprise met us at the boat, took some pics and the three of us talked about the boat and our journey.  Yep . . . .The Lucky Lady made the paper.
Jim stopped by with his friend Roy, who was very helpful and suggested that we wait another day before leaving in order to reach Green Turtle Bay without having to anchor down along the way.  Jimmy stayed busy all afternoon and I kept trying to get a photo of Otter.  Still, no luck.
Jim and Roy stopped by and invited us to have dinner with them and their wives, Trina and JoAnn.  What a feast.  Hamburgers, salad, beans, salad with JoAnn's homemade French dressing, fried apples, and cornbread.
Sunday, 9/18/2016

Left a bit later than we planned, as the fog was determined to hang on for as long as it possibly could.    Though we were anxious to go, The Lucky Lady was content to wait and leave at just the right time.  We did.
Around mid afternoon, the IL side of the river revealed it's pallisades and there it was, Cave in the Rock.  Interesting place with a violent past.  There is a ferry operating here that can ferry across . . . several vehicles.
The Lucky Lady soon reached her destination: Golconda,  IL.  We were welcomed to the marina by a friendly boater named Jim.  We went up to the store for ice and a river otter popped up out of the water, as if to let us know that we were in his backyard.  I tried til after dark to see him or her again and get a picture.  No luck there, but did hear a lot of commotion all night long.  Not sure if it was Otter or some of the Asian carp that have been jumping around the boat from the beginning of this journey.

Repairs completed early Thursday afternoon and the lucky lady left Rocky Point at 3:30. She did very well and Jimmy commented that she was better than ever. Anchored in just up from Owensboro, KY. Friday took to Evansville, IN, arriving about 5:30 in the evening. Glenn and Karen Rush got there shortly thereafter. Needless to say, it was great to see them. We ate together and had a really good time.

Today is Saturday, 9/17/16. Was a nice day for traveling downstream. We are currently moored at mile 841.5 and will lock through John T Myers lock at mile 846 early tomorrow morning and continue on. The Lucky Lady had a few visitors in Evansville and everyone seemed to appreciate the journey she made over the past 42 years.

Gary decided to go home by boat.

UPDATE: 9/14/16
As the Lucky Lady rests patiently at Rocky Point Marina, much has been done and is still being done to get her moving again.  Ralph is UNBELIEVABLE.  I could go on and on about this man and his many talents.  Dave has been there since Sunday and has been a great help and great company.   Jeremy appeared Sunday evening and came back again early Monday morning, proving to us that miracles do happen.

We were visited on Sunday (9/11), by my daughter Vivian, Gary's wife Laura, his father-in-law Lowell and Glenn Rush - - - who worked tirelessly and brought us some sliders or castleburgers or whatever they're called.  At any rate, they're those little hamburgers with holes in them .  Rocky Point doesn't have a White Castle . . ."thanks Glenn."

Gary had to leave Sunday and return home for surgert to his hand.  Of course, we wish for successful surgery and a speedy recovery.  An especially speedy recovery, so Gary can get back to practicing his penmanship.  His cursive writing is beautiful.  Although we miss him, he's promised to return at a later time.  Jimmy and I will hold him to his word.

This prop situation is not without its own set of glitches and complications.   One of which occured when Jimmy's I-pad went missing.  We weren't sure if it had been lost or stolen.  Nicole Evans (tech savvy Nicole Evans) to the rescue.  She tracked the missing I-pad to our car (which had been searched 3 times), and ended up being right next to Jimmy.  Thanks Nicole.

A lot of support has come from back home in Louisville.  Thank you Vivian for setting up this blog and taking care of Rocky and Sam, plus all of the other responsibilities I left behind.   Phil . . . ."THANKS A MILLION."  Thank you Vicky, Sunny, Laura, Karen, Pete (Pedro) and all others.

9/11/16
Rocky Point Marina
Here she sits and Ralph (Perry Marine Service) to the rescue.  Once again, we've made it to the right place.  Ralph has the ability to fix anything, even if it requires working underwater with scuba gear.

Day 5

Ralph tried to attach the propeller underwater with the aid of scuba gear. . . No luck.

Jimmy and I went to Jeffersonville for a different propeller and parts. Gary stayed behind.

Gary seems to be doing just fine.
